Monnica T. Williams, Ph.D., is the owner, clinical advisor, and executive director of the Behavioral Wellness Counseling Clinic. Effective July 1, 2011, Dr. Williams has begun practicing in Louisville, Kentucky, where she has recently accepted a faculty position in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences. Dr. Williams treats adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other anxiety disorders using empirically-supported cognitive-behavioral techniques. She specializes in the treatment of OCD for people with unwanted sexual obsessions.
Prior to her move to Louisville, Dr. Williams was an Assistant Professor at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety in Philadelphia, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she trained under, Dr. Edna Foa. Dr. Williams completed her undergraduate studies at MIT and UCLA. She received her Master's and Doctoral Degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia, where she conducted research in the areas of major mental illness, tests and measurement, and ethnic differences. She completed her clinical internship at McGill University Health Centre, Montreal General Hospital Site.
Dr. Williams has published multiple book chapters and scientific articles. She has been active with the International OCD Foundation in two states, and has also served on the board of directors for the Delaware Valley Association of Black Psychologists in Philadelphia, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Main Line chapter.
Dr. Williams provides periodic trainings for the therapists at the Behavioral Wellness Counseling Clinic, in Charlottesville, VA, in the areas of obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, culturally competent treatment approaches, and new research.
